Soybean SDS "Sudden Death Syndrome" Workshop
- Soybean Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) Workshop Planned for August 21 at the University of Minnesota Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca. SDS, caused by the fungus Fusarium virguliforme may be a spreading threat to soybean production in Minnesota. Yield losses due to SDS vary from mild to severe and can exceed 60%. Because SDS is new, little is known about this disease and how to manage it in Minnesota. This workshop will cover diagnosis and distribution of SDS, biology of the pathogen, comparisons between SDS and other diseases of soybean, factors favoring SDS, and disease management. Plans include tours of SDS field study plots and dissection of infected plants. The Workshop begins with registration at 8:30 am; the program starts promptly at 9:00 am and ends at 11:30 am on August 21stat the Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. On-line registration costs $35 per person prior to Aug 21st and $45 at the door the day of Workshop. Two Pest Management CEU’s for Certified Crop Advisors have been applied for with the Minnesota CCA office.
